Project Awake Kamuli, Uganda

We support a wonderful project in Kamuli, Uganda. Here, 4 hours from the capital Kampala started Rebecca Wananda a rescue home for children, called Awaka and an elementary school for the children from the neighborhood. About 350 kids go to school there now. Many of them are traumatized but with love and care, and sometimes trauma counseling, we build them a new future.
They also started an agricultural project and want to create a soccer field for the children.
Will you help us to make this possible?
Situation outline
As more than half of the children at Awaka are becoming teenagers many of them are starting to discover their talents. Most of them are interested in soccer and they walk a long distance to access a spacious place to play soccer. They already have two soccer teams, one for girls and another for boys. We have to pay for them to access and use the field (below) located a long distance away from Awaka.
This has discouraged some of them who prefer to stay at home than walk the long distance to the field. Two months ago a neighbour of Awaka put his land up for sale. The land is adjacent to Awaka land and presents a great opportunity for us to make a soccer field for the children. We want to purchase the land and design a soccer field. Besides the fact that this field will offer more opportunities for recreation, it will also serve as a ground for bigger gatherings that can attract children and adults from distant places. It will also create opportunities for income generation as it can be hired for big meetings.
Expected impact and outcomes
The children will no longer be confined to a small space where they have to carry out all their activities. Since we want the projects to be more self-sustaining, having a soccer field that can be hired will be a great source of income.
